“Taking part in the Smartie Challenge is a really easy and fun way to raise funds and awareness of bowel cancer. It’s shocking that it’s the second biggest cancer killer when over 90% of people could be treated successfully. I’m really proud to be supporting such a worthy cause.” Ricky Holmes, striker for Northampton Town

Angie lost her mum to bowel cancer in December 2015. She had only been diagnosed in June that year.

“I have a good friend that I met through Facebook that was going through a similar thing with her mum and was at a similar stage to me and she understands what I’m going through. That support has been amazing.

When someone has cancer it affects everyone. I’d say to people who are going through it – reach out to other people, don’t be afraid of your emotions; don’t feel like you... are alone.

You need to be there for the person who has the cancer, let them know you are there for them, talk to them about it as they may feel they don't want to worry you or burden you.

If you know the outcome is not great, make memories, take photos if you can, say anything you need to, when the time comes you don't want any regrets.....I haven't got any regrets.

Once your loved one has passed you will go through a range of emotions, don't hide them, seek help from someone close. Three months down the line and I still can't believe she's gone, it's crazy. I miss her like made, but I take some comfort in knowing she's with me."

Cancer sucks!

Really grateful to local radio station 2BR coming out to interview me last week. The piece they've written is brilliant and I'm really grateful to... them for allowing me to talk about the Cancer Drugs Fund in depth.

Had terrible news today that a dear friend has been taken off his treatment. Sadly, his drugs aren't working. It's heartbreaking and it shows that cancer patients need access to more drugs, not fewer! Thinking of you buddy!

I hope all the work that me, my family and others, especially Beating Bowel Cancer, are doing to raise this issue will be noticed by the powers that be. I hope against hope that the government will give the health authorities the money they need to fund drugs, like the one I'm on, so more people benefit. The Cancer Drugs Fund has given me so much extra life and time with my family. I just hope other cancer patients get the same chance!
