Message from your Treasurer February 2019
Hello everyone, my name is George Richards and I have been entrusted in the position of Treasurer of the Cornwall Bowel Cancer Support Group since May 2014, a task that I not only enjoy but which also gives me a focus in life after two major cancer operations.
During this period I have helped to organise several social get togethers for members and their family and friends at the Probus village hall, all of which have been very successful and raised quite a substantial amounts of money for the support group funds. This money has been used to fund the venue for our get togethers and to cover the entertainment and the supply of a FREE pasty for all, which has left a healthy balance to donate to bowel cancer related good causes.
One of our members Adam Coombe, participated and completed the 2015 London Marathon. We, as a support group donated £500.00 to his sponsorship money, in total Adam raised and donated £2,575.00 to Beating Bowel Cancer. Now renamed Bowel Cancer UK.
We also donated two filing cabinets to the Sunrise Centre £185.00. £1,000.00 to Bowel Cancer Research, £1,500.00 to Marie Curie, £4,750.00 to Cornwall Hospice Care that finances St Julias Hospice in Hayle and Mount Edgcumbe at St Austell, £1314.64 to Bowel Cancer UK, £250.00 to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, £1,000.00 to The Cove at RCHT, £1,000.00 to Macmillan Cancer Support.
It was also a pleasure to donate another £1,000.00 to ‘ Hope for Tomorrow ‘ which is a Gloucestershire based charity that fund nine mobile chemotherapy units throughout the country. We were recently fortunate to receive one of our own mobile units named ‘ Dorothy ‘ which greatly reduces patients treatment waiting times.
During my time as treasurer which is nearing five years our support group have raised and donated £14,574.64 to bowel cancer related charities.
I would also like to mention and thank one of our members Jenny Pascoe who has raised and donated to our group funds an amazing £4,267.49 since 2014 with her Euchre evenings down at St Just.
I must of course mention our wonderful members some who have sent me donations during my time in office, and many other members who have supported our regular get togethers. Without your support the donations made would most definitely not have been possible.
Thanks must also go to our administrators Clare Ferris and Candy Coombe.
Many thanks to those of you that have saved your used postage stamps, [please continue to do so] and to all of you that have purchased a copy of our ‘ Fun Book ‘ [a few more copies are available].
Last but most certainly not least, many thanks to the lady who had the foresight and the desire to set up the Cornwall Bowel Cancer Support Group in April 2013. This lady is our lovely Candy Coombe who we all have to thank for not only this support group but all the wonderful friends we have made because of it’s existence.
Thank you one and all for your continued support.
